Experience

Due to my studies and experience, English and Spanish are my strongest subjects. However, I have the expertise to tutor essay editing, test preparation (including TOEFL), English as a second language (ESL/ELL), reading, and writing. Not only do I have the most experience in these subjects, I enjoy them. Having an interest in a subject is extremely important in the learning process. This is why, as a tutor, I make it my business to learn how a student feels about a subject, so that I can make it interesting to them, which generates enthusiasm and engagement. Sometimes, even when a student has an interest in a subject, the learning process can be slow and tedious. This is why patience is important. I find creative approaches to teaching a lesson, and I work responsively, adjusting the lesson if one approach doesn't work. Being open and flexible, being aware of a student's learning style, and how a student relates to the subject are characteristics of a successful tutor.I have always had a passion for travel, immersing myself in the culture, food, and sights of a place. Also, I enjoy meeting new people. With this passion for travel has come a passion for language. I attended California State University, San Bernardino, where I earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in Latin American studies. I was granted the opportunity to study abroad, and spent my junior year in Granada, Spain. In Spain, I enhanced my language skills, tutored a group of immigrant students, was a private English tutor for a Spanish family, and traveled throughout Europe. When I returned to the U.S., I was a volunteer tutor in the University Language Lab and tutored privately. After graduating, I went to South Korea for two months to teach English. I also studied Korean.
